Hunting on Afognak Island

Kodiak Archipelago, Alaska

Untouched Wilderness

Afognak Island is a landscape of towering spruce forests, protected coves, tidal flats, and rugged coastline. As one of Alaska’s largest islands, its shoreline stretches for hundreds of miles, creating a maze of bays, inlets, islands, and sheltered waterways shaped by the North Pacific.

Part of the world’s northernmost coastal temperate rainforest, the island supports dense old-growth forest, rich wildlife habitat, and vast stretches of roadless wilderness. Mountains rise directly from the sea, and wildlife moves freely between shoreline, timber, alpine country, and the surrounding ocean.

The island supports strong populations of Kodiak brown bear, Sitka blacktail deer, and Roosevelt elk, along with a rich diversity of marine life, seabirds, and waterfowl.
